Purpose
To determine the incidence of contrast-induced nephropathy after coronary angiography, efficacy and safety of valsartan alone or in combination with an ACE inhibitor and the incidence of renal artery stenosis in patients undergoing non-emergent cardiac catheterisation with chronic renal failure

Randomised, open, parallel-group
Follow-up
Aim 3 years
Patients
Aim 500 patients, aged 40–80 years, with glomerular filtration rate 30–89 ml/min, undergoing non-emergent cardiac catheterisation
Treatment regimen
Valsartan, 10 mg/day, titrated to 40 mg/day, plus an ACE inhibitor at the discretion of the physician
