Disease
Hypertension
Purpose
To compare the effects of losartan with those of amlodipine on left ventricular diastolic function in hypertensive patients with left ventricular diastolic dysfunction without systolic dysfunction
Study design
Randomised, open, blinded endpoint, parallel-group
Follow-up
Aim 18 months
Patients
Aim 300 patients, aged ≥ 20 years, with SBP 140–200 mm Hg, DBP 90–110 mm Hg, left ventricular hypertrophy and left ventricular ejection fraction ≥ 50%
Treatment regimen
Losartan, 50 mg/day, titrated to 100 mg/day after 4 weeks, or amlodipine, 2.5 mg/day, titrated to 5 mg/day, to target blood pressure < 140/90 mm Hg
