Title(s) |

Disease |
Hypertension, left ventricular hypertrophy |
Purpose |
To compare the effect of telmisartan to that of metoprolol on left ventricular mass index in patients with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy |
Study design |
Randomised, double-blind, parallel-group |
Follow-up |
Aim 6.5 months |
Patients |
Aim 140 patients, aged 18–80 years, with mild to moderate hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy documented by magnetic resonance imaging |
Treatment regimen |
Telmisartan, 40 mg/day for 2 weeks, then 80 mg/day for 5.5 months, then 40 mg/day for 2 weeks, or metoprolol, 47.5 mg/day for 2 weeks, then 95 mg/day for 5.5 months, then 47.5 mg/day for 2 weeks |
