To compare the long-term effects of an intensive weight-loss programme on the time to incidence for major cardiovascular events in overweight and obese patients with type 2 diabetes

Treatment regimen
Intensive lifestyle intervention designed to achieve and maintain weight loss through reduced caloric intake and increased physical activity, or diabetes support and education, for 4 years

Data on the relationship among baseline characteristics and suboptimal control of glycaemia, BP and LDL cholesterol in the Look AHEAD population have been published in J Diabetes Complications 2008;22:1–9.
