Purpose
To determine whether BP management immediately following stroke reduces mortality and dependency

Randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled

Patients
Aim 2050 patients (1650 with hypertension, 400 with hypotension), aged ≥ 18 years, following stroke confirmed by brain imaging within 24 h for hypertensive patients or within 12 h for hypotensive patients
Treatment regimen
Hypotensive patients: phenylephrine, 60 µg/min iv, or placebo, for 24 h
Non-dysphagic hypertensive patients: lisinopril, 5, 10 or 15 mg/day po, or labetalol, 50, 100 or 150 mg po bid, or placebo, for up to 14 days
Dysphagic hypertensive patients: lisinopril, 5, 10 or 15 mg/day sublingual, labetalol 50, 100 or 150 mg iv bid, or placebo, for up to 72−96 h
