Disease |
Heart failure with left ventricular systolic dysfunction
Purpose |
To test the hypothesis that the addition of an angiotensin II type 1 receptor blocker (losartan) to an ACE inhibitor (enalapril) will provide better blockade of activation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system in patients with heart failure and left ventricular systolic dysfunction, and to assess the safety of this therapy
Study design |
Randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, double-dummy
Follow-up |
6-48 weeks
Patients |
Aim 120 patients (3 treatment groups of 40 patients each) with heart failure and left ventricular systolic dysfunction
Treatment regimen |
Enalapril, 10 mg bid, plus either one of enalapril, 2.5-10 mg bid, losartan, 12.5-50 mg, or placebo
