Aim 1600 patients, aged 18–80 years, hospitalised for AMI or unstable angina pectoris, clinically stable for 24 h, with LDL cholesterol < 140 mg/dl and not taking atorvastatin > 10 mg/day (or equivalent dose of other statins) |

Treatment regimen |
Atorvastatin, 20–40 mg/day, or equivalent dose of other statins (intensive therapy), or atorvastatin, 10 mg/day, or equivalent dose of other statins (standard therapy) |
