Purpose
To evaluate the efficacy and safety of colchicine in the treatment of acute pericarditis and prevention of recurrent pericarditis

Randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled
Follow-up

Patients
Aim 240 patients, aged ≥ 18 years, with a first episode of acute pericarditis with idiopathic or viral aetiology, pericardial injury syndromes or other autoimmune aetiology, including connective tissue diseases
Treatment regimen
Colchicine, 1–2 mg the first day, followed by 0.5–1 mg/day for 3 months, or placebo
Concomitant therapy
ASA, 800 mg orally every 6–8 h for 7–10 days, with gradual tapering over 3–4 weeks
